Bee Balm / Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa)

A perennial flower, Wild Bergamot (A.K.A. Bee Balm) flowers from June to September and is native across much of North America. It thrives in full to partial sun and adapts well to a variety of soil types including sandy, clay, and loam soils with dry to moderate moisture. Commonly found in floodplains, open woodlands, and mesic prairies, it’s known for its gray-green foliage and pink to lavender blooms. The leaves have a distinct mint scent and can be used to make tea. A top-tier pollinator plant, it attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, bumblebees, and other native bees. Seeds can be broadcast on a weed-free surface from January to mid-May in sunny locations. Once germinated, seedlings should be watered during extended dry periods. During the first summer of full growth, mow the area 3 to 5 times to keep plants between 4 and 8 inches tall and reduce weed pressure. Continue to add leaf mold or compost to the soil, as Wild Bergamot spreads easily through light soil. Recommended for home gardens, rain gardens, prairie mixes, and naturalized meadows. Dacotah Switchgrass Seed (Panicum virgatum)

Warm season, perennial grass that is native to North America. This seed is sold as pure live seed (PLS). Pure live seed is the percentage of pure and viable seed in a given lot. Scientific name: Panicum virgatum Summer perennial grass that is native to North America. Grows best in areas that receive 30 inches of rainfall a year in in irragated areas with average wet soils. Grows to 3-6 feet in height. Can be distinguished from other native grasses by the dense patch of hairs at the point where the leaf blade attaches to the sheath. Foliage turns a beautiful yellow in the fall. Could be planted on a highly erodile sites and field borders. Longevity: Perennial. Approximately 258,800 seeds/lb Planting Range: May 1-June 1 or fall seeding  Dacotah switchgrass is earlier maturing and adapted farther north than other known switchgrass cultivars. The seed-head consists of a large number of oat-like seeds set on one side of the stem, which is about 6-12 inches long. The root system is fairly deep and well branched; thus the plants can effectively utilize all available moisture. Longevity: Perennial. Pierre grows on well-drained uplands, shallow ridges, and rocky areas and may be planted on soils ranging from deep to shallow. It was selected for its overall vigor, leafiness, and freedom from disease in a cold, semiarid environment.
