Ox-Eye Sunflower Seed (Heliopsis helianthoides)
Ox-Eye Sunflower, also known as False Sunflower or Heliopsis Sunflower, is a hardy perennial native to the central and northeastern United States. Found in open woodlands, prairies, and fields, it adapts easily to a wide range of soils and moisture conditions—from dry to moderately moist. Growing 2 to 4 feet tall, it produces long-lasting yellow blooms from summer into early fall, making it a great choice for cutting gardens or the back of flower borders. The flowers attract pollinators as well as beneficial predatory insects that help control pests. Ox-Eye Sunflower is also valued in prairie, pollinator, and wildlife plantings, and it’s occasionally grazed by deer and livestock.
