Yellow Coneflower Seed (Ratibida pinnata)
Also known as Gray-Headed Coneflower, Drooping Coneflower, or Pinnate Prairie Coneflower, this native perennial is common throughout the central United States, thriving in dry woods, prairies, and along roadsides. Growing 3 to 5 feet tall, it produces distinctive drooping yellow petals surrounding a gray, cone-shaped center—an iconic feature that gives the plant its name. Blooming through the summer, its flowers attract butterflies and bees, while birds feed on the seed heads in late fall. Gray-Headed Coneflower tolerates poor soils and thrives in sunny locations, making it ideal for prairie restorations, pollinator plantings, and home gardens. Seeds can be sown in spring or fall into a clean, firm seedbed, either drilled or broadcast.
