Purple Prairie Clover Seed (Dalea purpurea)
Purple Prairie Clover is a native perennial legume common across the high plains and central United States, stretching from the Midwest to the southern and western states. It’s most abundant in upland prairies but also occurs in rocky glades, sand prairies, and gravel hills. The plant grows 1–3 feet tall and produces dense, cylindrical clusters of purple flowers that bloom from the bottom upward in mid to late summer. Adapted to full sun and dry to moderately moist, well-drained soils, it is highly valued for wildlife and pollinator plantings. The flowers attract honey bees, bumblebees, and a variety of native pollinators, while its nitrogen-fixing roots improve soil health. It also meets the legume requirement for NRCS-CRP pollinator practices. Weed competition can be reduced by mowing above seedling height during establishment.
