Prairie Cordgrass Seed (Spartina pectinata)
Prairie Cordgrass is a warm-season perennial grass native to much of North America. It grows 3 to 8 feet tall and forms dense colonies from creeping rhizomes, making it especially valuable for erosion control and soil stabilization. This hardy species tolerates a wide range of soil types, including alkaline soils and areas with high water tables, though it does not tolerate prolonged flooding. Seedling vigor is moderate, and germination may occur gradually throughout the summer, so consistent soil moisture during establishment is essential. Once established, Prairie Cordgrass becomes a tough, long-lived grass that provides cover and nesting habitat for wildlife. It performs best in full sun and moist to seasonally dry conditions.
