Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis)
Also known as Bluejacket, Ohio Spiderwort is a native perennial found throughout the Midwest and eastern United States. It thrives in medium to dry prairies and meadows, producing clusters of vivid blue, three-petaled flowers from late spring through early summer. The blooms open in the morning and close by afternoon in sunny weather, remaining open longer on cloudy days. This species is adaptable to full sun or partial shade and performs well in a variety of well-drained soils. Flowers are short-lived but continuously produced, providing early color and nectar for pollinator plantings. Long-tongued bees—especially bumblebees and Halictine bees—are its primary pollinators.
