Illinois Bundleflower Seed (Desmanthus illinoensis)
Also known as Prairie Mimosa or False Sensitive Plant, Illinois Bundleflower is a cream-white flowering perennial common throughout the tallgrass prairie and Great Plains. It is valuable for wildlife and pollinator plantings, wildflower mixtures, and range revegetation projects. This hardy native legume establishes easily and can be planted alone or mixed with other native species. For best results, sow at a depth of ½ inch on heavier, moister soils or up to 1 inch deep on drier, sandier sites. A prepared seedbed with mulch improves germination, and spring planting provides ideal moisture for seedlings. Broadcast seeding may require 50–100% more seed. Illinois Bundleflower also serves as a host plant for the Reakirt’s Blue Butterfly.
