Golden Alexanders Seed (Zizia aurea)
Golden Alexander (also known as Golden Zizia) is a hardy perennial native to the eastern and Midwestern United States. It’s typically found in moist woods, meadows, and prairies, where it produces bright yellow flower clusters in spring that resemble Queen Anne’s Lace. The blooms attract butterflies, bees, and numerous beneficial insects with short mouthparts. It also serves as a host plant for the Missouri Woodland Swallowtail and Black Swallowtail butterflies. Easy to grow and relatively problem-free, this species is best planted in spring or early fall from containerized stock and may bolt as the summer progresses.
